1. What kind of computer system do I need to run Top View?
The minimum system requirements are 486 based PC with 16mb of RAM, Top View runs on Windows® 95, 98, 2000, NT and XP. The recommended system minimums are a PI processor with 32mb of RAM and Windows® 98. Although the program itself is quite small (3mb), with the addition of the online manual and tutorials the files have grown considerably. The installed size is around 60mb and will probably grow even larger as we add more support materials.

2. Does Top View work on a Mac?
No. Unfortunately we have no plans to make Top View Mac compatible.

3. Does Top View work in Windows® XP environment?
Yes. With the new version of the Rainbow Driver (included with all Top View software), Top View runs in all current Windows® versions.

4. Is Top View hard to learn?
No. We have found that most users can successfully use Top View in a couple of hours. However, we recommend that each user finish all the tutorials provided and call with any questions. We encourage all questions and comments as we can learn how to make the software easier and more functional with the help from your input.

5. Can I use a digitizer with Top View?
Absolutely. We strongly recommend the use of a digitizer if the user does at least 50% of their quotes from blueprints. We sell about 50% of our licenses with a digitizer.

6. Do I have to use a digitizer?
No. We support several methods of input, only one of which is a digitizer. We also allow manual input (such as up, down, left, right, angled, etc.), importing DXF files and plan files (such as Dodge®).

7. Can I use Top View on more than one computer?
Yes. You may install Top View software on as many computers as you wish, but you may only use it on one computer at a time as you need to have the Rainbow security key attached to run the software.

9. Is training included or available?
Although training is not included in the purchase price of the software, we do offer training classes at our location. On site training may be provided for a nominal fee. 12. Can I export/import CAD files?
Yes. With Top View you are able to import and export DXF files quickly and easily.

13. Can I import plans from Dodge or other similar services?
Yes. This is one of the big advantages of Top View. You simply save the file from Dodge® or another similar service and open it in Top View. You are then able to use the drawing and generate your roof directly from the image.

14. Will Top View ME estimate other types of roofing?
Yes. Although TOP VIEW ME was designed origanally for metal roofing, other types of steep or low sloped roofing can be estimated.
For low slope, the software has the ability to give you the area of the roof and the lengths and types of flashings. This information could then be used in generating a quote for a flat roofing system.
As for steep sloped roofing, you could specify the length and width of the material, say a shingle for example, and the software will determine how many pieces (individual shingles) you would need. Top View will also determine the correct packaging for the materials (in this example, bundles).

15. Do I need to enter all the data into the database before I get started?
No. Top View comes preloaded with generic materials and flashings so you're able to generate quotes right out of the box. We have found that users find it much easier to get started when they can concentrate on using the software rather than setting it up. When you become familiar and comfortable with the software you are certainly able to customize the data any way you wish.

16. How hard is it to change the panel lengths after we get field verified dimensions?
Simple. When you get the field verified dimensions back, the user can then manipulate the panels (or roof) in several ways, including but not limited to, using the stretch command, the panel offset command, the panel adjust command and by adjusting the slope. The use of which command would be determined by the type of adjustment needed to be made.

17. How does Top View estimate the flashings?
Top View estimates the flashings by several methods. These would include rounding each run up to full pieces (i.e. full 10 foot lengths), re-using the extra elsewhere (thus maximizing usage) and complete job totals.

18. Can Top View estimate labor?
Yes. We've made Top View software to be as flexible as the people who use it. The user is able to enter labor as a line item (or several line items) and calculate the labor however they see fit (i.e. man-hours, man-days, by the piece, square, etc.).

19. Can Top View figure all my accessories?
Yes. Top View can estimate all of the items necessary to install the roof, right down to the last screw, pop rivet or tube of sealant.

20. Can I export the information from Top View to a spreadsheet such as Excel?
Yes. You have the option of either exporting as a simple text file or a tabbed delimited text file. Either of which can be easily imported into any spreadsheet.

21. Will Top View ME figure both horizontal and vertical panels?
Yes. Not only will top View figure both horizontal and vertical panels, it can easily figure tile panels as well. With tile panels it will also automatically figure the "tile step" needed to ensure the panels will line up correctly when installed (something no other product does).

22. When I update Top View, will it erase my database files?
No. When we send you an update, all you are actually going to update is your program files. All your data will remain intact and useable.

23. What's included in the price?

24. How are updates handled?
Updates are automatically sent to the user on a CD-ROM. The customer then has the lastest full version rather than a bunch of patches. This is sent of course only if the user has their customer support option up to date.

25. Can I customize the database?
Yes. The software ships with a generic database to get you started. The user is able to define their material any way they see fit. However, many users opt to keep the database generic as they feel this affords them more flexibility in designing and pricing systems.

26. Will Top View ME do cones, domes & curved panels?
Yes. Top View ME is able to do cones, domes (or any part of) and curved panels, such as awnings. We are the only software that has the ability to do domes, actual cones and tapered metal panels.

27. Am I able to change the line colors and line thickness in Top View?
Yes. Top View is a totally customizable system, which enables the user to set up the system any way they want.

28. Am I able to change the names of the flashings in Top View?
Yes. Top View ships with names of flashings directly from the NRCA manual. However, if a user desires, they are able to change the names of the flashings to whatever they wish. This sometimes helps to speed the learning curve for users who are used to specific names for certain items.

29. How long will it take me to learn Top View?
Most users find they can get a firm grasp within a few hours. We recommend that users go through the tutorials in the Users Manual, which can easily be done in about 3-4 hours. This typically gives a user a good feel for the program and allows them to start generating useful quotes.
